What is Sudan Rap Lab 2022?

Sudan Rap Lab 2022 is a 7 day residency program that aims to host an open creative space for a limited number of Sudanese female participants to interact, share, discuss, co-create and learn. The workshop focuses on inviting rappers however, we also welcome female applicants from other backgrounds (i.e singers, music producers and DJs.) This is a music production lab focused on hip hop and rap music but drawing from limitless sources of inspiration to build music that will amplify & project the voices & identities of the Sudanese participants.

The participants will lead the creative collaborative space and they will record original music in collaboration with the workshop facilitators & contributors from both the UK & Sudan. 

The workshop will focus on developing the participants’ artistry as song writers and performers through group, individual and 1-1 production sessions and the whole process will be supported by a series of masterclasses. 

When is it taking place?

Sudan Rap Lab 2022 will take place between 16th-23rd June 2022 in Khartoum State, Sudan. Participants are expected to commit to a full 7 days live-in residency.

Who is this for?

We are looking for female participants from all around Sudan. You must be FEMALE. You must be OVER 18 years of age. You do not need to be a professional artist, but you must show some evidence of experience in song writing. Above all we are looking for participants showing strong potential and originality.

How much will it cost me?

If you are selected to join Sudan Rap Lab 2022, you will not need to pay anything.  Travel, food & accommodation will be covered for the duration of the residency.

Outcomes?

By the end of the residency we aim to have completed recording a number of tracks which will be developed, mixed and mastered ready for an international release. We will also produce music videos and subsidiary content with which to promote the project.

The outcomes of the Rap Lab will be performed at forthcoming Karmakol International Festival events and released internationally digitally & on vinyl by UK based record label Katamat Records & Wild Youth Digital from Germany. 

What do I need to do to get involved?

Submit your application in Arabic HERE or in English HERE. We will contact you to let you know if you reached the interview stage. We will conduct interviews online via Zoom, however we may take telephone or face to face interviews if anyone has issues with accessing a stable internet connection.
